City of Pitt Meadows

Overview

In 2007, On January 1st 2007, Pitt Meadows became the newest city in British Columbia. Moving up from their previous status as a District, they were very proud to become The City of Pitt Meadows. To celebrate this great news, they picked April 25th - the 93rd anniversary of their original incorporation - to organize a party, a press conference, and to release a flashy new website.

Approach to Development

With Pitt Meadows' increase in status, we needed to create a site that helped display some of the virtues as to why the District was selected to become a City in the first place: it had to be practical, modern and attractive. It also had to maintain the branding of the old site while looking new and improved, which Pitt Meadows wanted to convey.

Role in Development

Selected after an extensive search, Atomic Crayon was chosen to provide a re-design for Pitt Meadows and to implement a content management system (CMS) for them. The system we selected, ElementCMS, empowered their staff to easily and quickly update all areas of the website themselves. We provided CMS training to City staff, allowing them to ensure the site's formatting stayed uniform, subsequently leaving the site looking clean and organized.

Project Plan

We worked out where we could add the most functionality while still allowing the greatest number of constituents the ability to view the information. Having worked on numerous municipal sites, we know that user accessibility is key. We selected attractive, powerful and widely usable functions that improved the power and style of site, while leaving no users out.

Project Outcome

The City has been extremely pleased with the site and staff were doubly appreciative of it being completed in such a tight and strict timeframe, as it had to be ready for their press conference. We have an ongoing relationship with Pitt Meadows, advising them on design and technical specifications, and updating their website as required.
